With the light surely starting to dissipate into darkness more quickly, the rustic season is approaching. As the colder weather arrives, the goals that are set to be achieved come to light, and when having to take my foot off the gas to heal, I can’t help but feel unfulfilled, which makes me zoom out to reset and think.
Each year, we set goals for ourselves, and often they are material goals. Get the blue belt, hit the right weight, get the spouse, and so on. Regardless of what the first checkpoint is, it is all about accomplishing a goal, arriving at a checkpoint, and then setting the next one till the finish line. Better known as life. What we really want are the things that come with it. Discipline, confidence, hope, companionship, the characteristics of who we want to be. The goal is not what we attain; it is what we become. Or at least it should be.
When the new year comes, or on that day we decide to take on a task, ask yourself: who or what do you want to be? If you accomplish that,, regardless of whether you get to hold your goals in your hands physically, and if you can say your foundation got stronger, then mission accomplished.
The material goal will come when the time is right, so until then, hone your attention to who you want to be.
