As the halfway mark of the year approaches, I am looking back at the first half through the lessons learned and the highlights; one word stands out: opportunity.
During a conversation with a friend about our lives, I said, “All I need is an opportunity,” and at the time, it seemed like the right thing to say. Looking back now, knowing what I know, I realize that most opportunities are not given by others. They are created by our ability to take action or take a chance when one is presented. Especially when the opportunity will contribute to the achievement of our goals.
Reminding me of the paradox of choice and time. When to execute, or when to say, “thank you, next time,” if it looks like a “next time” will occur, but if we have learned anything from life, it’s that next times or second chances are few and far between. All we can do is make the decision that feels right, but more importantly, makes sense logically. Relying too much on one or the other can lead to indecision. If it benefits you and aligns with your path, you know what needs to be done, regardless of whether it's easy or not. Nothing worth achieving is easy, and there will always be setbacks.
A conversation, a trip, an application, whatever opportunity you need, when the time is right, create it. Having the mindset and ability is one small part of fulfilling your purpose, becoming the leader you are meant to become, and more crucially, keeping that oath to yourself,
Peyton.
