As I sat down to write this journal, I looked up and noticed something I hadn’t seen in a long time. a lemonade stand. Resulting in putting my thoughts on hold to support the kids behind it. A friendly reminder that this world is full of good humans who are leading their circles.
This month was nothing out of the ordinary. Just continuing to focus on my goals and enjoying the journey. Been reading the work of J.R.R Tolkien, the aphorist mind behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. A mind I admire because it was the vicissitudes of World War II that not only laid the foundation for those stories above but also for the man he would become.
When reading any work of his, it is prominently displayed that where the evil controls were once home to good men and good forces, what happened?
To me, complacency is what happened, comfort. The daily acts of good, day by day, that kept the darkness at bay decreased until there was none left. Reiterating the importance of continuous effort and discipline to lead and to achieve success relies on the small, simple daily tasks of life. A prehensile message.
Tolkien reminds us to embrace the mystical nature and hardships of life while at the same time acknowledging how simple and clear life should be. A lesson that is tricky to see in this complex and sophisticated world. But as I grow and build, it remains evident. I will cherish this lesson, as we all should.
“It is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life.” - J.R.R. Tolkien.
