Journal 10.

Twenty-eight years. A checkpoint in this wild game of life that, until I came to it, wasn't at the forefront of my mind. Now that I have arrived, reality seems to have taken hold.

Spent this month in a Groundhog Day state of mind, which was the biggest hurdle as a result of having an injury to focus on. No one prepares anyone for that aspect of life; we all have had days that blend, and repetitive days will take a toll on one’s mind. I had to take a deliberate pause because three years of training five days a week had caught up. Going from the best shape of my life to not the worst, but definitely the most painful, was unexpected and really threw a brick wall in the path of plans I had for the rest of the year. However, if my almost tricennium life has taught me anything, it is that flexibility is one of the greatest skills a human can possess.

During my rest, the question of why came up. Why sacrifice my well-being for the vision I’m trying to achieve? My surface answer is legacy, but let’s dig deeper. For one, my ability to take on a challenge is sometimes not great, not because I don’t accept it, but because I do. Hard things make us better human beings, especially in today’s soft world. Secondly, although my choices are tickets to expansion, I would be lying if I said they weren't a distraction. A distraction from the reality of having a longing heart. An adventurous journey one must take.

With improvements to the injury, the acceptance of my time will come, and with the hunger to get better than I was before, this next chapter will be the saviest one yet.

On to the next checkpoint.

Peyton.
