Spending the morning recovering from last night’s training session before hitting the mats once again this evening.  Seeing the familiarity of the rustic season on the deck reminds me that another year around the sun is soon to arrive.

Lately, I’ve been so focused on my training and the various other things that the illusion of time sped up even more. With that comes a lesson: aggressive patience.

Patience is no doubt necessary in our lives when it comes to achieving our goals. Our new nature these days is so short-focused; an example of this is TikTok, or really any social media platform. We expect to receive everything in such a short time because of a ten-second or one-minute video. That’s not how we are supposed to operate. Patience can sometimes be on the same side as taking it easy or simply not paying attention to a particular thing because it may be beyond your control.

The beauty in the art of Jiu-Jitsu, or in any gym, is the work it requires to level up. As the years accumulate and experience expands, a point arises when stagnation or a lack of forward momentum begins to occur. That’s where aggressive patience has a part to play. When the feeling of stagnation is in control, take action. Keep working towards that goal, keep pushing forward, but while doing that, remain patient by trusting the process, and more importantly, by enjoying the journey to each milestone.

My time will come, your time will come, our time will come. Until then, bite down and keep moving.

Peyton.
